Customer segments
Shopify customer segments
Shopify customer segments are groups of customers who share similar characteristics, behaviour, and needs. By identifying and segmenting your customers, you can better understand their preferences and create targeted marketing campaigns to meet their specific needs.
Shopify allows you to create customer segments based on a variety of criteria, including:
Order history: You can segment customers based on the products they've purchased, the frequency of their purchases, and the amount they've spent.
Geographic location: You can segment customers based on their location, which can help you tailor your marketing efforts to their specific region.
Demographics: You can segment customers based on demographic factors such as age, gender, income, and education level.
Customer behaviour: You can segment customers based on how they interact with your store, such as whether they have abandoned a cart, how frequently they visit your store, or whether they have left product reviews.

Why create Shopify customer segments?
By segmenting your customers, you can create targeted content variations that reach directly to your customers' specific needs and preferences, which can help improve customer loyalty, increase sales, and drive business growth.
How to create Shopify customer segments
You can create customer segments in Shopify by following these steps:
- Log in to your Shopify admin and click on the "Customers" tab in the left-hand menu.
- Click on the "Create a Segment" button.
- Name your segment and select the criteria that you want to use to define your segment. You can choose from a variety of criteria, including order history, geographic location, demographics, and customer behaviour. Explore Shopify-based customer segment filters.
- Once you've selected your criteria, click on the "Preview Segment" button to see a list of customers who meet your criteria.
- If you're happy with your segment, click on the "Save Segment" button to save it to your customer list.
You can now use your customer segment to create targeted Context sections, and run promotions that are tailored to the specific needs and preferences of your customers.
Keep in mind that you can create multiple customer segments based on different criteria, and you can refine your segments over time as you learn more about your customers, and their behaviours. By using customer segments effectively, you can improve your marketing efforts and build stronger relationships with your customers.
